Lugard Falls
Lugard Falls, named after Britain’s first proconsul of East Africa, Captain Lugard, is a striking natural spectacle. The swift Galana River plunges into a large pool below, generating a thunderous noise as it vanishes into a narrow rocky gorge, winding through gorges before culminating in a precipitous drop near Tsavo East National Park. The intensity of the falls is particularly remarkable, especially during the rainy season.
What makes this site truly unique is the mesmerizing beauty of the multicolored rocks adorned with streaks of pink, light gray, and white. A dedicated car park at the falls provides visitors with the opportunity to navigate around the eroded rocks or traverse the river, offering a better vantage point to admire the rapids.
Lugard Falls is home to a diverse array of wildlife, including the cheetah, zebra, hippo, wildebeest, giraffe, wild dog, hyena, and many others.
